Welcome to Quirky Crafts Challenges

Welcome to Quirky Crafts Challenges the place where any craft project is allowed.

We're a small design team with big inspiration.

On the first Sunday of the month, at 6pm UK time, we will set a new challenge which will close on the 28th of that month at midday. The DT will pick their top three favourites and you could win a prize and join us as a Guest Designer. Winners are posted on the first Sunday in the month (midday usually) before the new challenge - don't forget to come and check if you are a winner.

Challenge 18 - recycling on the farm

Welcome back to Quirky crafts. If you would like to know who won last time please scroll down to the next post.
It is my (Caro's) turn to set the challenge this week. Being a country lass myself, I just love the summer months pottering around farms and as a child I used to help milk the cows at our neighbours farm. Thinking back to my childhood and the summer months spent on the farm I decided that our theme for this challenge should be:

Recycling on the Farm
Please include at least one recycled element on your creation, and anything you would find on a farm (animals, hay barns, tractors etc). Please remember we are not just a card making challenge site, feel free to enter any project so long as it fits with our theme.

We are lucky enough to have two sponsors this week. The first prize winner as chosen by the design team will receive the 'Moo' ribbon collection from Crafty Ribbons.

The second prize winner will receive a $5 gift voucher from our second sponsor Digital delights.

So without further ado here are the guest designers and design team entries, using digital stamps from Digital Delights, for the Recycling on the Farm challenge:

Guest Designer Wendy (Papersniffer)

Wendy used Hallie Horse and said "My recycled elements are kraft card which is made from recycled paper, and the buttons which are from a blouse which fell apart, I was thrifty and cut the buttons off before it went in the bin."

I used both Hallie the Horse and Farmer Giles from our sponsors to decorate this recycled cloth bag for storing plastic farm animals in (my iron isn't working hence all the creases!). I used tapestry stamps round the edge and then mounted the horse (coloured with promarker) in the centre. The tag was made with recycled string and cardboard (with one side torn off to reveal the corrugations) with green distress ink for the edges and then Farmer Giles was coloured with promarkers and mounted on it.

Firstly apologies for the photo, I turned my camera on and got a flashing red battery....so I had to be very quick. I just managed to click before the camera died! Ok apology out of the way, back to my card.... I have used Claudia Cow stamp from Digital Delights. She is just so cute!. My backing papers are from my scrap box, but were originally printed for another project and then rejected...so kind of recycled I guess. The paper is from Pink Petticoat. My real recycled element is actually the lace around the image mount and the flowers. Both were made from some plasticy spongy packaging that wrapped a parcel I received. I knew it would come in handy someday. I really like the way the lace effect came out, so much so that I will use it again. The lace was cut with a spellbinder edgeability and the flowers were made from a bitty blossoms die cut.

This isn't the card I was going to make, due to a printer malfunction I couldn't print anything so it was lucky I found a left over Claudia the Cow from a previous challenge! I coloured her with Promarkers and cut her out with Nestabilities. My recycled elements are a tissue box (the holographic pink), a tea bag box (green leaves), a sample piece of leather I found in drawer while clearing out yesterday (the die cut flowers, cut with Accucut die) and finally the thin ribbons coming from the larger flower which were from clothes and the pink was tied round a gift. Moo ribbons are by Crafty Ribbons and you could win some this time!

I've used Farmer Giles and Claudia Cow from our sponsors, coloured them with Promarkers, put them together on a Alphabet hanger. For my recycling I cut card from a cat food box and used some garden raffia. The chicken ribbon, which I won in a challenge, is from Crafty Ribbons!

So now it is your turn. We can't wait to see what you create.

Please add a link to your blog post (not your blog) using the biggest blue froggy at the top of the collection, the other one (at the bottom) doesn't do anything that we can tell, and please comment after you have linked.Don't forget to mention Quirky and add a link back to here (please read the rules and if you realised you haven't followed the rules and won't be included in the top three, and you want your entry removed to try again - please email us using the link in the side bar).
